Originally from Georgetown, Conception Bay, Bev has been living in St. John’s for almost 20 years. She is the founder of the Miles for Smiles Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the support, awareness and prevention of child abuse.
In 2011, Bev brought the first chapter of ASCA – Adult Survivors of Child Abuse – to Newfoundland and Labrador and continues to facilitate two monthly meetings in St. John’s for survivors of all types of child abuse. In Tuscon, Arizona, Bev received trained in child sexual abuse prevention and teaches adults working or volunteering with children or youth.
Bev organized a child abuse awareness walk in St. John’s in 2013 and since then she has partnered with individuals to organize annual events in Halifax, NS; Augusta, Maine; and many communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. She has also lobbied successfully to have April provincially proclaimed Child Abuse Prevention Month as well as an educational program in child sexual abuse prevention which will be introduced in schools throughout the entire province.
Bev is a wife, mother, motivational speaker, writer, entrepreneur and has great passion for child abuse prevention.
