For Immediate Release, November 24th, 2020
Violence Prevention Newfoundland & Labrador hosts its annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaigns throughout the Province.

#WakeUpNL #EndViolenceNL
Members of Violence Prevention NL will be kicking off the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign by launching the first card from its WakeUpNL postcard campaign via social media on November 24th, as well as holding many training sessions, giveaways and community engagement sessions throughout the 16 days of Activism.
We hope that you will all join us in creating healthy discussions on violence against women and girls and how we can work together to end this in our Province during the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence!
The campaign takes place from November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, through to December 10th, Human Rights Day. It is a time for us all to come together as a community to call for an end to violence against women and girls in our province and around the world.
“We need to continue to bring awareness to this issue locally, nationally and internationally,” says Val Barter, Executive Director of VP-AE. “When we know that 1 out of 2 women in NL over the age of 15 will experience some form of physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, we have to come together as a community and raise our voices to say, “This is NOT OKAY”. It is essential that we do something about it. We must educate everyone, by shouting WAKE UP NL – It happens here”
If we work together collaboratively to advocate for change then and only then, will we see meaningful changes taking place.
Violence Prevention NL has 10 offices throughout NL, dedicated to violence prevention in our homes and communities by increasing awareness, engaging the public and media and advocating on behalf of victims of violence in partnership with the Violence Prevention Initiative, Government of NL.
