St. John’s, NL (July 6, 2020) – Harvey’s Oil has stepped up to support those suffering from domestic violence by donating $10,000 to Violence Prevention Avalon East. “A big part of our focus at Harvey’s Oil has always been to support those in the community who support us,” said Chris Forward, General Manager, Harvey’s Oil.

“These last few months have been a great example of Newfoundland resiliency but we recognize that these challenging times have been particularly hard for those in abusive situations, and we wanted to do our part to help out.”
Violence Prevention Avalon East is an alliance of community and government agencies dedicated to ending violence in our homes and communities. The donation will support the Unsafe at Home program, a resource-based program that provides domestic abuse supports to those in need, especially during the pandemic when the vulnerable are even more vulnerable while forced to spend more time at home than usual.
“We are very grateful for the generous donation from Harvey’s Oil, this donation will go a long way in supporting vulnerable people of Newfoundland & Labrador; the COVID-19 pandemic may be adding to feelings of being isolated and trapped in abusive situations. It’s important that people know there is help available,” said Val Barter, Executive Director of Violence Prevention Avalon East. “We want to remind everyone that we’re here to offer support and to listen. For those who are struggling with abuse at home, and for those family, friends, and neighbors who would like to help, please reach out for confidential support.”
